Illuminating Love Through Your Heart Chakra

The heart chakra is your 4th chakra. It is also known as Anahata, and it resonates with the color green and the element of air. The illumination of this chakra will bring love, compassion, and beauty into your life. This chakra bridges your earthly chakras (root, sacral, and solar plexus) and the spiritual chakras (throat, third eye, and crown). The heart chakra is located at the center of your chest and is the center of your energy system.

When your chakras are out of alignment, they will not emit and receive optimal prana or life force energy. Therefore it will prevent you from feeling your full vitality, which will lead to feeling exhausted, scattered, dull, depressed, and even sick.

The pericardium is a thin sac that protects our heart. It keeps our heart in place within our chest cavity and protects it from infection. It also lubricates it so that it prevents friction when it beats. When we go through relationship trauma, we build upon this protective sac and add our own invisible barriers we feel are protecting us. This leads to closing our hearts off to avoid more pain. In reality, the walls we build end up blocking us. At this point, we stop feeling safe to love, share, and allow the beauty into our hearts.

What Happens When the Heart Chakra is out of Alignment?

The heart chakra can go out of alignment due to relationship trauma, significant changes in your environment, and physical ailments. Emotional behaviors can manifest in the following ways:

  1. Defensiveness
  2. Feeling closed down
  3. Jealousy and fear of intimacy
  4. Codependency, relying on other’s approval and attention
  5. People pleasing
  6. Putting yourself in the savior or rescuer role
  7. Falling into victimization
  8. Antisocial, excessive isolation
  9. Unforgiving
  10. Mental Illness

Anytime we close ourselves off from being vulnerable and open because of past pain, our heart chakra will not function properly. It is tragic because we miss out on the beautiful and glorious experiences in life. We all do it, and it becomes hard to connect and trust. We live in defensive energy, and it can become lonely, even within our relationships. We can’t feel true happiness or joy.

The Significance of the 4th Chakra

This chakra is the central generator of love. It is love for yourself and others, relating to others, compassion, empathy, forgiveness, trust, hope, gratitude, connection, and acceptance. Not to mention transformative, having the ability to grieve and find peace, discernment, and the integration of body and spirit.

When your heart space is open, you will experience emotional intuition, emotional intelligence, joy, and meaningful connections. You will have the ability to access how you genuinely feel and share it with others.

The heart chakra governs the chest, heart, lungs, circulatory system, emotional regulation, and thymus gland. It also regulates the shoulder blades, arms, hands, and lymphatic system. If our heart chakra is in misalignment, it can bring life-threatening physical ailments such as heart problems, respiratory and circulatory diseases, and mental illness.

What If We Love As If We Have Never Been Hurt?

Can you imagine the way it would feel if we were able to love that way? As if we have never been hurt? It does feel impossible after feeling unseen, rejected, unloved, and invisible. The best way I have found to love this way is to be more open and helpful in little ways. We can start with a simple hello to a stranger. It can be giving a genuine compliment to a friend, smiling at the waitress, or the busboy at a restaurant. Saying thank you, and I appreciate you. Not only does it help somebody else’s day become brighter, but it can also take the focus off ourselves and our sadness.

Our subconscious mind has many negative beliefs stored there. Once we start to heal our inner child and meditate to clear our minds, it will allow us to open ourselves more freely. A lot of us are in our heads, overthinking and analyzing frequently. As I notice myself doing this, I will visualize taking that energy from my head and putting it in my heart. I allow my heart to process this instead. You will be surprised by how effective this can be. It gives me such a sense of calm, and I can make choices from a place of love.

Having discernment with whom we choose to share our hearts is very important. Remember that authenticity is the key. If we are vulnerable enough to be ourselves fully and from a place of kindness, we will feel safe around the right people. Notice how you feel around certain people. It is amazing what our intuition tells us. Do you feel anxious? Or do you feel calm? Are you able to be yourself without judgment? Is this person kind in what they say and do?

This week if you can, try to imagine how it would feel to love fully. What would that look like for you? How would it feel to let yourself be seen and heard? Think about how amazing it would be if you could authentically be yourself and love and be loved. Visualize yourself loving in a way that has nothing to do with your past, just loving in the present moment.

Tippy-Toes and Butterflies

When I think of love, I think of tippy-toe kisses, butterfly tummies, laughter, playfulness, snuggling, intimate talks, and sweet shared secrets. The thought of being close and connected with someone I adore brings me happiness. It’s also the best feeling when we think of our best friends, children, and parents and how beautiful the reciprocity of love is. What does love look like to you? I would love for you to share in the comments below.

The more visuals you have of what love looks like and feels like, the better. Another thing that I like to do for my heart chakra is to stand with my arms wide open towards the sky. It releases tension, and you will feel open. You can also eat green foods, especially leafy vegetables. Surround yourself with green and pink crystals; they are also healing. I like Rose Quartz, Green Adventurine, Kyanite, Emerald, and Morganite.

If you can envision that beautiful ball of green energy spinning clockwise in your chest, receiving love. You can also touch your heart and feel it beating. It will allow you to see and feel how miraculous this loving and life-giving green chakra is.

Have a wonderful week! xoxo

What DOES authentic love look like? I am sitting here wondering about that. Maybe acceptance, encouragement, calm & comforting feelings. Not something I’m exactly familiar with so I’m enjoying figuring it out! Your post also explains how come I’ve always loved the color green – in a rich forest green or the beautiful emerald green. I have learned so much from you and your posts – and more about myself than I ever would have expected! You are an amazing person and I am so grateful that you are you!

Brandi, I love your questions and how they are so thought-provoking. Authentic love, in my view, is precisely how you just described it. Acceptance, encouragement, calm, and comforting sounds like genuine love to me—the feeling of being loved for just being yourself and loving that way back. It can also be very individual as well—for example, playful, free, able to grow and explore. I am falling in love with the color green. The rich forest sounds incredible, and I will use that visual this week. You are an amazing person as well. I enjoy reading your comments. Thank you again for sharing and your support. xoxo

Just before your post I experienced the tippy-kiss, butterflies, laughter, snuggling, intimate talks……..just as you described:). It was amazing and you are dead on. It requires being yourself and just being yourself!! Be authentic and showing and being the REAL you is amazing! Especially when both involved are doing it!!!
